Glaucoma is characterized by progressive optic nerve damage, often associated with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). Because peripheral vision is lost first while central vision remains intact, patients often do not notice any problem until substantial irreversible damage has occurred.
Who Is at Higher Risk for Glaucoma?
- Individuals aged 40 and above.
- People with a positive family history of glaucoma.
- Highly myopic patients or those with diabetes.
- Individuals with prolonged use of steroid eyedrops.
